È qui la festa? Media italiani e Graffiti Writing a fine anni ’90
Recentemente ho ritrovato (grazie Kay) questa intervista rilasciata per L’Unità nell’ormai lontano 1998. Questa è solo la parte che mi riguarda, la pagina completa riporta anche le parole dei miei vecchi amici Atomo Tinelli e Marco Teatro: QUI trovate il PDF completo. Rileggerla a distanza di tempo mi ha regalato qualche veloce riflessione:
1) era il 1998 e sebbene il Graffiti Writing esistesse in Italia da quasi 15 anni, i giornalisti italiani (come del resto studiosi d’arte, critici, politici, amministratori locali) ne sapevano ancora veramente poco. L’intervistatore, che pur sembra in buona fede, non lesina errori e confusioni banalissime quasi gli fosse stato precluso informarsi decentemente, insomma fare una semplice ricerca tipo quella che fanno gli adolescenti alle medie.
Pur sapendone quasi nulla, non lesina tuttavia nel trarre conclusioni personali (vista la semplicità dell’argomento!) la principale delle quali sintetizzata nel titolo: Writers e graffitisti, è qui la festa. In soldoni: ovunque nel mondo questo fenomeno è scemato, solo a noi sfortunati italiani è andata male. Quasi la solita accusa di provincialismo italiano: arriviamo dopo e smettiamo dopo.
Come sia poi andata in Italia e nel resto del mondo lo sappiamo: siamo nel 2016 e quest’arte è più viva che mai, è diffusa capillarmante in ogni angolo del mondo e si presenta sotto mille volti nuovi, capace di reinventarsi continuamente.
2) Sono felice di rispecchiarmi ancora nelle mie parole di un tempo. Non sempre mi è capitato di poterlo dire, molte volte mi sono trovato di una banalità disarmante, poco più che un ragazzino alle prese con qualcosa più grande di lui (l’arte ed il proprio ego).
In questo caso condivido ancora l’analisi che avevo tratteggiato: riflette la situazione a fine anni ’90.
E oggi? Aspetto che L’Unità o qualunque altro quotidiano mi mandi un professionista preparato per raccontare il seguito. Preparato ho detto.
Train spotting, Milano 90s
I don’t paint trains anymore since decades, but there was a time in the mid 90’s when this was a real novelty in Italy and my quest for innovation and growth also came from this fire. For family reasons, those years were also the darkest and hard years of my life and this activity, in addition to being a relief valve for my stress, it allowed me to continue to paint (as during the day unfortunately I had to spend my time in a hospital).
In the end I came out with many adventures to tell, I do not regret anything, but those years have flown away without to succede in building anything more long lasting than those memories. But memories are important and who knows, maybe spray cans have also kept me alive? I’m still pondering.

Gold and bronze wildstyle, Milano 1996
Under the Brunelleschi overbridge in Milano with my friend Yazo. First and last time in my life I have ever painted graffiti with gold or bronze (some unknown italian bad spraycan brand)! But I still love it, flow is still good with this one, even after all these years!

Back 2 The Roots Jam, Milano October 2015
Back 2 The Roots Jam, proudly and well organized by my dear friend KayOne, lasted 3 days and ended up in the whole renovation of the old THP hall of fame in Giambellino, Milano. I was so happy and excited to paint again at my wall after 17 years from the last time, that since the very beginning I stayed really focused and didn’t almost speak to anyone around: in a few hours I finished my piece. First time painting with Day Colors spray cans and they have been good, thanx Astrofat.it for the support!

First Endomondo italian long distance skateboarding challange: LDP Italy Max KM 2016
Many long distance skateboarders in the World use Endomondo App for their trainings: this is not the best fitness app around, but it can build sport communities like small social networks. In the last years, LDP has grown up using Endomondo so it’s a great way to get in touch with long distance skateboarders around the World, look what are they doin’ and get suggestions from them. Down here you’ll be able to track the first italian long distance skateboard challange on Endomondo: most km skated during the whole 2016. It’s open to every italian rider, all the levels, so sign to Endomondo to take part: you’ll be suprised to discover how many km in a year you’ll have skated just going to school or work! Believe me, this is addicting!
